With influences ranging from the Roots and MMW to Trombone Shorty, this group of veteran musicians pulls flavors from live Hip-Hop, New Orleans Brass, and improvised experimental music to provide a truly unique, freshly original, yet strangely familiar musical experience.
Born as a group in 2012, EOP consists of Evan Oberla (Trombone/Guitar/Ringleader), Ero (Vocals), Dan Shaw (Keys), Jeff Bass (Bass), Nathan Parker (Drums), and Joey Gurwin (Percussion), and has already displayed substantial initiative in pre-releasing their first EP ‘Here’ locally to a growing fanbase and critical acclaim. “We don’t strive to sound like anyone; it’s just a natural feeling like breathing or dancing. That’s why we call it freshly original. We just want to share our favorite thing with you,” asserts trombonist/composer and project founder, Evan Oberla (who moonlights as trombonist for international act O.A.R.) The EP captures the depth of their multi-layered live sound with the assistance of Vital Recording’s Fred Blitzer, who mixed the record, and Grammy Award-winning engineer Brian Lucey (Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Dr. John), who mastered the project.
“Here” bridges the sounds and experiences of a band that has toured, shared the stage, and worked with national and international acts such as O.A.R., Allen Stone, Flo-Rida, Mac Miller, Wanz (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis), Spoon, DJ Logic, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, and the Columbus Jazz Orchestra. These travels have built the group a widely testified reputation as a band with a jaw-dropping stage presence, exhibiting a magnetism that brings everyone inside and outside the venue towards the stage. Their charisma and band-to-fan camaraderie is nothing short of infectious, as they take full advantage of what makes a live show so special, transporting everyone in the venue to the “here and now”. Their debut EP radiates that energy and captures the indefinable beauty of a live experience, bringing listeners right “here” no matter where they may find themselves.
“I wanted to make a record in that one regard is a headphone record with a varying depth of layers and colors, but also something that is eminently singable and could be the soundtrack to a party.” With a strong network of local and regional support, EOP is ready to go out with a bang and share their diverse, authentic sound with the world in hopes of bringing them right back “here”
